Short version: Writilis uses the data it needs to run the app: accounts, profiles, handwriting assessments, subscriptions, support, and security.

We do not sell personal data, show advertising, or use advertising trackers.

What data do we use, and why?

Account and app setup

We use your sign-in details, email address, privacy settings, language, country, and basic app and device information. This lets us create your account, keep you signed in, load the right app experience, troubleshoot problems, and protect the app.

Profiles

Profiles can include a name or nickname, birth month and year, language, country, handedness, chosen font, and emoji. We use this to organize profiles in the app and personalize activities or assessments.

Data you create in the app

When you use handwriting features, we use the images you submit, assessment results, practice programs, lesson progress, and notes or feedback you add. We use this to provide the features you ask for and help you track progress.

Spaces, groups, members, and invitations

If you use sharing or organization features, we use space and group names, member names, member emails, roles, and invitations. This lets us manage access and collaboration. People in the same space may see data in that space according to their role.

Subscriptions and payments

Subscriptions are handled through Apple, Google, and RevenueCat. We use subscription status, product and transaction references, store, country, currency, renewal, cancellation, and refund information. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

We use this to unlock paid features, handle renewals and cancellations, provide support, prevent fraud, and keep records we may need for accounting or legal reasons.

Feedback and support

If you send feedback in the app or contact us by email, we use your message and contact details to reply and improve Writilis. Please do not include sensitive information unless it is needed for your request.

Crash reports

Writilis can send crash reports through Firebase Crashlytics. Crash reports help us fix bugs and may include device details, app version, crash logs, and technical diagnostics. You can turn crash reporting on or off in the app's privacy settings.

Our reasons for using data

We use data to provide the app features you choose, keep the app safe, fix bugs, answer support requests, prevent abuse, and keep required business records.

How handwriting images are processed

When you submit a handwriting image, Writilis processes it to create the assessment you requested. This includes checking that the file can be used safely and generating feedback from the image.

The assessment is automatic and is meant to support practice. It does not decide whether someone can use the app, pay for the app, or receive a service.

If an assessment looks wrong, you can delete it in the app or contact us.

Who do we share data with?

We share data only when it is needed to run Writilis:

  • Google Firebase and Google Cloud: sign-in, database, storage, backend functions, app protection, crash reporting, image safety checks, and AI handwriting assessment.
  • Apple and Google: sign-in and app store subscription handling, depending on the option you use.
  • RevenueCat: subscription status and purchase event management.
  • Other users in your space: only where sharing is part of the space, group, member, or invitation feature.
  • Authorities or advisers: only if we must do so to follow the law, protect rights, or handle a serious security issue.

Where is data processed?

appilis LLC is based in Switzerland. Some service providers may process data in other countries. When data moves internationally, we use providers and safeguards intended to protect it, such as data processing agreements, standard contractual protections, or countries with recognized data protection rules.

How long do we keep data?

We keep data only as long as it is useful for the reason we collected it, unless we need to keep it longer for security, accounting, support, or legal reasons.

  • Your account data stays until you delete your account.
  • Profiles, assessments, images, programs, notes, and feedback stay until you delete the related item, profile, space, or account.
  • Invitations expire and are deleted after 48 hours.
  • Subscription, support, crash, and security records stay only as long as we need them for billing, tax, support, security, or legal reasons.

Children's data

Writilis can be used by adults to support a child's practice. Children should not create their own account or send us personal data without a parent, guardian, teacher, or other responsible adult. To keep a child's data lighter, use a nickname for the profile and avoid uploading images that show extra personal details.

Your choices

  • You can edit or delete profiles in the app.
  • You can delete handwriting assessments in the app.
  • You can delete your account in the app.
  • You can turn crash reporting on or off in privacy settings.
  • You can use nicknames instead of real names for profiles.

Your privacy rights

You can ask us to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict the use of your personal data. You can also object to some uses of your data or withdraw consent where we rely on consent.

Email support@appilis.ch and tell us what you need. We may ask for information to confirm that the request is really yours. We aim to reply within one month.

You can also contact your local data protection authority. In Switzerland, the supervisory authority is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC): edoeb.admin.ch.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Writilis changes or when privacy rules change. We will publish the updated version here and update the date at the top.
